3 days Sahara desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Meet your Private English-speaking driver at your hotel and then depart Marrakech on a journey through the stunning mountains of High atlas to one of the jewels of Morocco, Ait ben haddou kasbah. Marvel at the scenic drive of Tizi N’tichka Pass, 2260 m altitude. Plenty of time to tour the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, this setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco: Lawrence of Arabia, Babel, gladiator and much more. 

After lunch at your convenience, then hit the road for Boumalne dades through Ouarzazate city, famed for being a prime filming location for many Hollywood TV shows and Blockbusters, there’s an opportunity to view the World’s largest film studio. Afterwards, travel along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Pass by the Rose’s valley in Kelaat M’gouna and also Skoura palm groves. 

After breakfast, drive a bit further for an amazing panoramic view of Dades Valley and the Mountains beyond. Next, a magnificent place known as Monkey fingers for taking some pictures. Afterwards, we set out towards the Majestic Merzouga desert. En route, stop at Todra canyon in Tinghir. One of Morocco’s popular natural sights moreover, the charm of Todra lies in its changing colors as the sun slowly moves from east to west over the towering vertical limestone cliffs that reach heights of 987ft, carved deep into the High Atlas Mountains.

Plenty of time to wander through this sumptuous site, and then continue the journey towards the Sahara Desert. Along the way, view glimpse of Morocco’s nomadic tribes, travelling across the mountains and also often staying in make shift tents as they head to their next destination.

Next, stop for lunch in the village of Tinjdad. As approaching the destination, pass through Erfoud, famous for its fossil and marble products. Upon arrival at Merzouga, you’ll then set off by camel for an hour trek out into the Erg chebbi dunes to witness a gorgeous sunset and spend the night in a Berber Camp in the heart of the desert under an endless canopy of Saharan stars. 

Enjoy an early morning sunrise just over a high dune of Erg chebbi. After freshening up and breakfast, ride a camel back to Merzouga village. Then get back on the road, head back to Marrakech through Alnif. Making our way through the stunning landscape along the route that is often labeled ‘the road of a thousand Kasbahs’. Thereafter, admire views of the remarkable Agdez Gorge and vast valleys – Stopping en route for lunch in a local restaurant.
